The Kentucky Office of Bar Admissions, as an arm of the Kentucky Supreme Court, is responsible for administering the bar examination and determining eligibility of all candidates seeking admission to practice law in the State of Kentucky.
The office includes the Board of Bar Examiners and the Character and Fitness Committee, whose members are practicing attorneys appointed by the Supreme Court. The Board was first created by the Kentucky legislature in 1918.
A full-time staff, located in Lexington, Kentucky, carries out the work of the Board and Committee, including administering the bar examination twice each year, on the last Tuesday and Wednesday in February and July. Approximately 750 candidates take the Kentucky bar Examination annually.
