Applicants will be required to provide his/her own laptop and the laptop must meet the system requirements set forth on the Exam4 website.  Each applicant will be required to pay a fee of $100 at the time of registration on the Exam4 website.

Policies & Information  -

Laptop users may or may not be in a separate room from the general examination population.

Applicants should be experienced working with their laptop computer.

Applicants must provide their own laptop with a CD drive, a USB port and a power cord.

If an applicant does not own the laptop they intend to use, they should make sure that there are no restrictions in place for that laptop, which will prevent them from downloading the software.

Applicants will only use their laptop to take the essay portion of the Kentucky Bar examination, not the MBE.

Should an applicant's laptop malfunction on the day of the examination, they will be required to handwrite their examination answers in the answer book.

If an applicant withdraws from taking the essay by laptop computer and wishes to write the exam, they must notify the Office of Bar Admissions no later than February 1st prior to the February exam and July 1st prior to the July exam to be seated in the main testing room.  If the withdrawal is received after these dates, the applicant will be required to write their essay exam in the computer room.

The Office of Bar Admissions will supply the electrical hookups and surge protectors.  Applicants may NOT take the bar exam on their battery.

Applicants will not get a hard copy of their answers.  All editing will be don on the screen.  Applicant answers will be printed by the Office of Bar Admissions staff and provided to the Examiners for grading.

Applicants will have to install the required version of Exam 4 prior to the established deadlines in order to take the Kentucky Essay by laptop computer.  (Note: If an applicant has previously used Exam 4, they MUST register and install the Bar Exam version of the software)

Applicants will be required to complete a Release of Liability form and submit it at the time of filing their
application to sit for the bar examination.  That form is included in the
Application for Admission by Examination to the Kentucky Bar SCR 2.022.  However that form can also be obtained here.
