COMPUTER TESTING
INFORMATION
The Kentucky Office of
Bar Admissions offers the opportunity for applicants to take the essay
portion of the Kentucky bar examination by laptop computer. Kentucky
has chosen the Extegrity Software Company to provide the software,
Exam4, for the Kentucky Bar Examination. The following information and
instructions are provided to assist applicants interested in taking the
Kentucky Essay Examination by computer.
Any applicant who is interested in
computer testing must indicate their
intention to
take the Essay portion of the bar exam by computer on their bar
application,
sign a Release of Liability Form and register on the Exam4
website.
After bar applications are received,
applicants will receive via e-mail from the
Office of Bar Admissions further information in regard to
dates and deadlines
to register
on the software website and downloading the software.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT
APPLICANTS make sure their
e-mail
address is current with the Office of Bar Admissions and that
SPAM filter on
their computer will allow e-mail from the Office of Bar
Admissions to be
received.
Applicants will be required to
provide his/her laptop and the laptop must
meet the
system requirements set forth on the Exam4 website at
www.exam4.com.
Each applicant will be required to
pay a fee of $100 to the software company at
the time of
registration on the Exam4 website.
(Note:
If an applicant has previously downloaded
the Exam 4 software, whether in law school or from a prior bar exam,
they MUST re-register and install the current Bar Exam
version of the software for the bar exam for which they are currently
applying.)
Applicants should be experienced working with
their laptop computer.
Applicants must provide their own laptop with a USB port and a
power cord.
The Office of Bar Admissions will supply the electrical hookups and
surge
protectors. Applicants may NOT take the bar exam on their
battery.
If an applicant does not own the laptop they intend to use, they
should make
sure that
there are no restrictions in place for that laptop, which will prevent
them from
downloading the software. NOTE: It is strongly suggested that
applicants DO
NOT use an employer’s laptop, as there are sometimes security
settings on
the laptop that will cause problems with the software at the exam.
Should an applicant's laptop malfunction on the day of the
examination, they
will be
required to handwrite their examination answers in the answer book.
If an applicant wishes to withdraw from taking the essay by
laptop computer
and wish to
write the exam, they must notify the Office of Bar Admissions no
later than
February 1st prior to the February exam and
July 1st prior to the July
exam.
Applicants will not get a hard copy of
their answers. All editing will be done
on
the screen. Applicant answers will be printed by the Office of Bar
Admissions
staff and provided to the Examiners for grading.
