Kentucky Supreme Court
Rule 2.014(3) indicates that one who graduated from a law school located
outside the United States may sit for the Kentucky Bar Examination only if
he/she meets both of the following two requirements:
1.
That person must have been actively engaged in the practice of law
for three of the last five years, and
2.
That person can show that his/her legal education is the
substantial equivalent of the legal education provided by an approved law
school located in Kentucky.
For those who meet the
first requirement and wish to further explore the second requirement the
following additional information is provided.
a.
The evaluation of his/her legal education is a time consuming and
expensive
process and each applicant must bear the cost of the
evaluation.
b.
A great deal of information must be obtained and submitted
to the Kentucky
Board of Bar Examiners. The more
information
provided by the applicant
the less the ultimate costs
for the
applicant.
c.
Each applicant will be required to post a bond to
cover
potential
costs.
d.
For those who wish to explore whether his/her legal
education is
the substantial
equivalent of the legal education
provided by an approved law school
located in Kentucky it is
suggested that they gather and submit as much of the
material as
possible for a preliminary review by the Chairman
of the Board
of Bar Examiners before applying.
At that point the
Chairman will
provide an estimate of how much the required
bond would be.
Following conclusion of the process any funds
not expended would
be
refunded to the applicant.

further information please contact the Office of Bar Admissions.
